Planning a wedding comes with a lot of questions, and choosing your officiant is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Here are answers to some of the questions I hear most often. If you don’t see your question below, just reach out—I’m always happy to help!
Booking & Availability
How far in advance should we book?
The sooner, the better! Popular dates—especially Saturdays from May through October—can book more than a year in advance. If your wedding is sooner, don’t worry. I often have availability for last-minute weddings and elopements.
How do we reserve our date?
A signed contract and retainer officially reserve your wedding date. Until then, your date remains available to other couples.
Do you travel?
Absolutely! I officiate weddings primarily in the Cleveland/Akron area. I am happy to travel farther for destination weddings and special requests. Travel fees may apply depending on location.
What happens if an emergency prevents you from officiating?
In over a decade of officiating weddings, I have only missed one wedding when my favorite uncle passed away and his funeral was planned 3 hours away. In the unlikely event of a true emergency, I have relationships with trusted professional officiants who can step in so your ceremony can proceed as planned. I will never leave you hanging in such an important moment!
Ceremony Questions
Can we customize our ceremony?
Absolutely! Every ceremony I write is personalized to reflect your relationship, personalities, and vision for your wedding day. No cookie-cutter scripts here!
Can we include religious elements?
Of course. Whether you’d like prayers, scripture, unity ceremonies, cultural traditions, or a completely secular ceremony, we’ll create something that feels right for you.
Do you perform LGBTQ weddings?
Absolutely! Love wins. Always.
How long is the ceremony?
Most ceremonies last between 10 and 25 minutes, depending on personal vows you write, religious elements, readings, unity ceremony, and any special traditions you include.
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! Many couples write their own vows, and I’m happy to provide guidance if you’d like help getting started. First step, check out my vow writing tip link!
What if we're nervous?
That’s completely normal! I’ll guide you through every step of the ceremony so you know exactly what to expect. My job is to help you relax, enjoy the moment, and focus on each other.
Marriage License Questions
Do we need a marriage license before the ceremony?
Yes. You’ll need a valid Ohio marriage license before your wedding ceremony.
What happens after the wedding?
I’ll complete the officiant portion of your marriage license and return it to the appropriate probate court so your marriage is officially recorded.
Can you help us understand the marriage license process?
Absolutely! I’ve created a marriage license guide for counties throughout Northeast Ohio to make the process simple and stress-free. You can find that information here!
Rehearsals
Do you attend a rehearsal?
Yes! My full-service package includes rehearsal coordination so everyone knows where to stand, when to walk, and what to expect. You just show up and I’ll handle the rest!
Do we really need a rehearsal?
While not every wedding requires one, rehearsals are highly recommended for ceremonies with wedding parties. They help everyone feel more comfortable and confident.
Elopements & Sign & Drives
Do you perform elopements?
Absolutely! Whether it’s just the two of you or a small gathering of your closest family and friends, I’d love to help you celebrate. I am also happy to assist with finding a location, photographer or florist, if needed!
What is a Sign & Drive?
A Sign & Drive is a simple legal marriage performed at my home in Broadview Heights. I complete the marriage license, say your “I do’s,” and you’re officially married—Vegas style! I then return the marriage license to probate court.
Pricing & Payments
How much do you charge?
My pricing depends on the type of ceremony you choose. You can view my ceremony packages here!
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, Cashapp, checks or cash!
Wedding Day
What should we expect on our wedding day?
I’ll arrive early, check in with your wedding pros, go over the ceremony with your photographer, videographer and DJ, touch base with both of you, ensure the marriage license is handled, and help keep the ceremony running smoothly.
What should we bring?
Your marriage license, your rings, and yourselves! I’ll take care of the rest.
Will you help calm my nerves?
Absolutely! One of the biggest benefits of hiring an experienced officiant is having someone who knows how to keep things calm, organized, and enjoyable. I am confident in the work that I do, and that confidence in knowing I have your ceremony handled, will help calm your nerves!
Still Have Questions?
